Weird Factors That Affect Your Premiums
Does what it says on the tin.
There are many different factors that can affect how much your life insurance policy will actually cost you. Like, did you know that your postcode is one of them? Certain postcodes, for example inner city areas, deem people ‘unhealthier’ and therefore have a knock-on effect on price.
It’s not just your age and your smoker status that determine what you pay - although if you do smoke, you need to be honest about it. Insurance companies will penalise smokers, as statistics say they are more likely to claim on their insurance or critical illness policies.
It’s also worth remembering that, believe it or not, e-cigarettes count. They are categorised as real cigarettes because they contain nicotine and the long-term health benefits have not yet been officially established.
Another factor is your job. Certain professions with high injury rates or those who are exposed to hazardous chemicals or materials end up with higher premiums. International business travel is another – all those flights throughout the year mean sky-high premiums.
Don’t think that if you work in an office you’re safe either. Extremely sedentary jobs may lead people to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and this is something insurance providers are not forgetting about – the less you move the more you’ll pay.
If you want to see lower costs for your life insurance, get married! Statistics show that married couples live longer and are generally healthier than their single counterparts. Therefore putting a ring on it causes a drop in health insurance premiums, especially for men.
