Is Work Working Against You?
‘Hazardous’ jobs and how they impact on your life insurance.
Believe it or not, your occupation has a great impact on the cost of your life insurance policy.
The workplace is somewhere we spend a mighty chunk of our precious time, and it possesses risks that insurance companies must evaluate. Some jobs are simply more ‘hazardous’ than others, where ‘hazardous’ is defined as involving a higher level of premature death.
The logging and fishing industries tend to top this list, with falling trees and being swept overboard coming in as the highest risks insurers look out for.
Other positions might not be particularly dangerous in the normal course of events but will flag up on an application: truck drivers and travelling salespeople, for example. Driving occupations lead to higher premiums due to the fact you are on the road for long periods of time; this increases the risk of fatalities from collisions, speeding accidents or even from falling asleep at wheel.
